How are these Programmes Delivered?

ECDL Foundation’s certification programmes are delivered in 148 countries around the world in 41 different languages to individuals and organisations, using a network of national operators, Accredited Test Centres, and training providers.

National Operators
The national operator in each country implements ECDL Foundation’s programmes against a defined set of procedures, and therefore has the authority to award ECDL Foundation certificates in that country.

Accredited Test Center

Testing can only be taken at an Accredited Test Centre.  ECDL Foundation’s national operator is responsible for accrediting test centres and auditing them on a regular basis to ensure they meet ECDL Foundation’s quality assurance standards.  Accredited Test Centres are generally within:

  • Schools
  • Universities
  • Public bodies
  • Government departments
  • Private training centres
  • Training departments within private corporations

Certification
People begin the ECDL Foundation certification process by enrolling in an ECDL Foundation programme at an Accredited Test Centre. Training is provided for each module prior to taking the test and includes training manuals and e-learning programmes which have been approved by ECDL Foundation and/or the national operator.

Following appropriate preparation, the candidate sits a test in each module at the Accredited Test Centre.  Upon completion of the appropriate number of modules, the Accredited Test Centre informs the national operator and the certificate is awarded to the candidate.

The newly designed ECDL Foundation certificate is awarded in many countries and lists the modules and/or programmes completed by the holder.  In some countries, programme specific certificates are issued.  Both designs are acceptable, and display the logos of ECDL Foundation and the national operator.
